Week 2 – July 22, 2019

Week one is in the books and I’m pretty happy with the amount I’ve been able to put into practice and the progress so far. It’s been a great week with my first hole out in my life (9 iron from ~158 yards) and my first career under par round (-1). Too bad our course right now is under construction and it was only for 15 holes, but still.. I haven’t hit the ball that well since the year of the accident.

As for my goals, I didn’t hit the gym or do as much over speed training as I was aiming to but I’m pretty happy otherwise.

Other notes from this week:
– strokes gained has come down in everything except for putting which doesn’t make sense to me but what do I know …my math suck
– I’ve gotten up and down 12 of 15 this stat block but have been 0 for 3 on sand saves =(

Trackman Combine – (driver cured)

Hopped on the Trackman Combine with one of the pros at my club and found out that I’ve been hitting 2* down on my driver again! UGH. It’s a bad habit I fall into from time to time and explains why my driver has gone from a strength early this year to terrible in the last three months. One good drive (if I time my release) for every 5 bad flares to the right. I worked a bit on hitting up and extending my left side through impact and my driving is almost back to normal =)

July 16, 2019 – Day 1, Week 1

My back is finally close to 100% and now that I can play and practice normally, I’ve taken the plunge and joined a private club. Thankfully I have an understanding wife, no kids (yet) and time to practice so I’ve decided to create this blog and track my progress.

Big Picture Goals:

  • Get my handicap to 0-2 by May 31, 2020
  • Win my Club C in 2020
  • Place top 10 in one other tournament next year

Current Swing/Status:

  • Handicap 9.8 (and trending the wrong way this year)
  • Greenside up-and-down rate 65% (13/20 since I started keeping stats)
  • Sand save rate 27% (3/11)

Specific Goals:

  • Keep track of strokes gained and adjust practice accordingly
  • Greenside up-and-down rate > 65%
  • Sand saves > 40%
  • Figure out why my driver has become so inconsistent over the last 6 months

How to Reach my Goals:

  • Play/practice 25-30 hours/week
    • 3 – 4 “rounds”
    • Swing work – find a long-term coach
    • Short game work
    • Putting at home – work on consistent start lines
    • Over speed training 2-3 days
    • 30-80 yard wedge games

Unfortunately, my club just started renovations on a new practice facility so holes 8 to 10 are shut down and we have no range and short game area til next May. Hitting in a little netted area and the practice green will have to suffice.
